Spain Hosts Romania, Ends 54.750 Down

Posted by Cam Anton on June 17, 2009

This past weekend, shadow-dwelling Spain hosted perennial superstars Romania in a dual meet in Vila de Salt.

Romania won the team competition with a whopping 225.150 over Spain’s 170.400. The large gap in team scores was due to Spain counting only three scores on the Balance Beam and Floor Exercise while Romania was able to count four scores on all apparatus.

Romania also finished in the top four spots in the individual All-Around, with Diana Chelaru leading the way scoring 56.400, followed by American Cup participant Amelia Racea, Raluca Haidu, and Diana Trenca.

The top All-Arounders for Spain were Naomi Ruiz scoring 54.200 (5th) and Mercedes Alcaide scoring 53.000 (6th).

On the Vault, Spain’s Ana Maria Izurieta claimed top honors with a 14.950 on her Yurchenko Layout 2/1 (5.8/9.15).

Romania’s Ana Porgras finished first on the Uneven Bars with a 14.500 (5.9/8.60), as well as first on the Balance Beam scoring a 15.100 (6.1/9.00).

Romania continued their dominance on the Floor Exercise, with Raluca Haidu winning the event with a 14.450 (5.6/8.85).

Recent Absence

Posted by Cam Anton on June 14, 2009

Hey everyone.

I apologize for my recent long-term absence.

I have had some family drama and a death in my extended international family that I have been dealing with.

I am hoping to get back up to speed within the week.

Thanks,

-Cameron @ World Gymnastics
