Kent State University overtook powerhouse team Stanford to finish in second place behind the University of Michigan at the Ann Arbor Regional to advance to the NCAA Championships in Cleveland, Ohio.

The Golden Flashes surprised this gymnastics coach/fan/participant early in the season by ranking in the top 15 a few times with some great meets and scores. I had hoped they’d make a run for Nationals, but didn’t expect a strong post-season showing given the caliber of teams they would be competing against in the Regionals.

They have pleasantly surprised me by coming second to the University of Michigan, which hosted the competition and making it known that they will not go gently into the night.

Congratulations, Kent State! Give ’em hell!
